About the event
Join local author, David Elliot in this workshop for writers/creators of all levels and genres. Explore the archetype of The Fool and the important role it can play in producing work that is both original and authentic. “If you haven’t surprised yourself, you haven’t written.” So says the great American writer, Eudora Welty. But what exactly did Welty mean? And just as important, how do we get that surprise into our work? One way may be to set our egos aside and reach for the dunce cap. The first half of the workshop will be lecture/discussion. In the second, we will try to apply what we have learned. Please come prepared to write with notebook and pen.
David Elliott is the New York Times bestselling author of many award-winning books for young people. His most recent book, BULL is a retelling of the myth of the Minotaur, received six starred reviews and is often compared to Hamilton. Voices: The Final Hours of Joan of Arc will be released March 26, 2019. David is a founding mentor of Lesley University’s Low Residency Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing, where he still teaches. He lives in Warner, New Hampshire with his wife, Barbara Seebart.
