About the event
Note: This event has unfortunately been cancelled due to health needs of the instructor
We will be making round-base baskets from willow, using techniques traditional to Scotland and other parts of Europe. Learn to make a slath for the base, staking up, three rod waling, and a handle of your choice to make a round base basket to use and enjoy for the rest of your life. We will also cover some propagation tips, history of willow basketry and other fun basketry topics! Please note - this workshop requires significant hand strength.
Mary Fraser weaves willow coffins for green burial. She apprenticed in Scotland in 2014 and lives in southern Vermont. She teaches basketry workshops throughout New England and works in green burial education projects in New England and nationally.

Classes will all be taught outside under a tent, with a backup plan in case of rain. The location at Foster Farm is rustic, and participants should be comfortable being outdoors for the full day. Please bring your own lunch and anything else you need to be comfortable. Seating will be provided and there is a composting outhouse.
