Formal poetry, that is poetry that has a prescribed form (think sonnet, fourteen lines and a specific pattern of rhyme) can teach writers of any genre a great deal about the many ways language works. In this three-hour workshop, we’ll learn the “rules” governing a form whose roots are in the Middle Ages but still employed by contemporary poets. Then, we’ll try our hand at writing one. No need to be scared. No judgement. The only thing you need is good will, good spirit, and a good sense of humor. Oh, a little imagination and something to write with helps. For writers of all genres and levels of experience.
$30, max 12 people. All proceeds to benefit Warner Public Market arts and workshops programming.
David Elliott is a NY Times bestselling children's author. HIs latest book, "Voices; The Final Hours of Joan of Arc" was recently selected as one of the ten best books for young readers this year by The Wall Street Journal.
